Ombre Weddings

I’ve been in love with ombre since I first laid eyes on Gwen Stefani’s pink silk faille John Galliano wedding dress almost 10 years ago. Back then, I had no clue this had a name! The word ombre comes from fashion and means a graduated variation in color. Basically, a color fades from a light shade to a darker shade gradually or from a dark shade to a light shade of the same color family.

Within the last year or so, we’re seeing this more and more in weddings and events. I love some of the cool ways ombre is being incorporated from wedding cakes to nails to wedding invitations and of course to floral!

Here are some beautiful examples of ombre in weddings.

From pale pink to fuchsia: sweet peas, hyacinths, and nerines culminates in a deluge of fuchsia peonies, ruby fringe tulips, and raspberry cyclamens.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Inspired Wedding Decor

If you are a huge Twilight fan like Juliet and I, then you are still swooning over Bella and Edward’s wedding. I think many of us envisioned what their wedding would look like and once I saw the movie, my vision was very off.

Handblown Glass Bud Vase Napkin Rings

I saw this on OpenSky, a site with handpicked items from 75 of the best people in food, style, health, and design. These bud vase napkin rings made out of handblown glass were a pick from award winning event designer Preston Bailey. So pretty!

Wedding Word Wednesday: Charger

Chargers are “plates” that are not meant to be eaten off of and are placed at each place setting as purely a decorative item. Chargers are usually removed prior to serving. At times, the appetizer course may be served on the charger but is then removed prior to serving the main course. Having a charger at each place setting completes the look of your table nicely.

Chargers are also called underplates, chop plate, service plate, show plate (the name I was first taught years ago in banquets) or base plate.

Wedding Word Wednesday: Chiavari Chair

Most venues offer standard banquet chairs which are covered with a chair cover and sash for weddings and social events. Chiavari chairs are usually an upgrade and can cost anywhere from $7-$12 per chair. These chairs are typically made from wood but can be made from resin and metal as well. Both the chair and the chair pad come in all colors of the rainbow. Remember to get a breakdown of the costs including delivery, sales tax, and labor (setup).

Etsy Finds: For the Music Lover

I love this idea for the music lover. Arrange your guest names in alphabetical order. These can act as your escort cards. But to be sure you’re not left with an empty box at the end of the night, purchase blank cards and have guests fill them out with a note. When they pick up their escort cards, they’ll need to replace it with their little note to you!
