Amanda and Oli Same Day Edit

Amanda and Oli were married at Anthem Country Club on June 22nd, 2010. Many of their guests were from out of the country so they wanted to make their wedding an all day event! This is where Digs Studio decided to surprise the bride and groom with a same day edit video. There was not a dry eye in the house and it was a great surprise to all! Check it out below:

10 Wedding Planning Do’s and Don’ts from TheKnot.com Editor

Anja Winikka, Editor of TheKnot.com (as well as their other niche websites: ChineseWeddingsbyTheKnot.com and GayWeddingsbyTheKnot.com) and wedding planner for Married On Myspace has provided us with some wedding planning tips below.

10 Do’s and Don’ts from Anja Winikka, editor at TheKnot.com

1. DON’T wait up to 6 months to send your thank you cards. For gifts received before the wedding, give yourself two weeks. For gifts given at the wedding, cards should be sent within the month following your honeymoon.

2. DON’T include your registry information on the invitations. The best way to pass on this information is with a wedding website (check out the ones on TheKnot.com!) or by word of mouth.

3. DO only include the names of the guests you’d like to attend the wedding on your invitations. Want an adults-only ceremony and reception? Only put the parents’ names on the invitation. Want your single friend to bring a date? Include their name and “plus guest” on the invite.

4. DO handle the awkward comments with class; and know when guests are being more-than-nosey with questions like: “when are you having kids?” and “how much did all of this cost?” or “is this really a white wedding?”

5. DO utilize the internet! E-save-the-dates are growing in popularity, along with couples starting wedding websites to relay all the important information to their guests. An added plus: E-save-the-dates are green!

6. DO keep guests at destination weddings entertained by suggesting activities for them to do during their stay. Some couples even prepare gift bags with local trinkets, maps and travel guides for their guests.

7. DON’T ignore the tipping protocol. Unless gratuity is included in your bill, it is expected that you’ll tip the officiant and the church or synagogue ($500 or more), the delivery and set-up staff (around $5 to $10 per person), the reception staff (15%-20% of the food bill and $200 or $300 for the maitre d’), the stylist and make-up artist (15%-20%), and your driver or person responsible for your transportation (15%-20%). Tipping bakers, florists, your wedding planner, photographers and musicians is optional.

8. DON’T have a cash bar. Try to adjust your budget by offering a wine selection or a signature cocktail so guests won’t have to fumble for money.

9. DON’T ask for cash as a gift, even though surveys show it’s the number one gift couples want. By default, many guests will give cash anyway.

10. DO include dress codes on invitations so guests will know how to dress, which is especially helpful for those late afternoon weddings with nighttime receptions

Also, don’t forget to tune into Married on Myspace and place your votes!

Married on Myspace Season 2

It’s rare that I watch “reality shows” much less post about them on my blog but this season of Married on Myspace features a few friends of mine so I had to share!

In partnership with The Knot, JcPenney and Hewlett Packard, Myspace has created a 13 episode web series that follows a couple during their wedding planning process. Dehlia and Graeham are the lucky couple in season two and my friends Anne Claire and her husband Brian are the Maid of Honor and Best Man!

The MySpace community essentially helps to plan their big day by placing their votes on the wedding dress, rings, centerpieces, etc. Watch this episode while Brian gives the groom advice and the ladies view the centerpiece options!

Our First Commitment Ceremony: Flamingo Las Vegas

Laurie and Renee are the sweetest couple and I was so thrilled when they decided to book with Green Orchid Events! I’m excited and honored to be able to plan this first commitment celebration and I’m hoping for many more! Our wedding day coordinator Angelica McDonnell was on site on the wedding day to coordinate their entire day!

The Nevada Domestic Partnership Act went into effect on October 1st just in time for their October 17th commitment celebration. Laurie and Renee were so excited to be able to apply for domestic partnership so this celebration was extra special.

Their color scheme was a combination of orange, burgundy, and deep reds. The entire outdoor terrace was lit up by twinkle lights on their existing trees along with par can uplighting with amber gels. Guests danced the night away to the sounds of the “CEO” of Fun Jodi Harris!

Burgundy satin napkins on gold and rust crinkle taffeta linen. Chairs were covered with gold lamour chair covers with burgundy satin sashes:

Fall Wedding at Wynn Las Vegas & Maggiano Little Italy

Kelly and Nate were married back in October of 2009 at the Primrose Court in Wynn Las Vegas and celebrated with a dinner reception at Maggiano’s Little Italy.

Engagement Season Is Here

Engagement season is upon us and so many lucky couples will be engaged this holiday season!

My husband proposed while we were on vacation in Anaheim to visit Disneyland. He’s quite the writer and wrote a heartfelt and beautiful poem to me and incorporated the proposal in the poem.

Here’s another story I love that was caught on “film”. Lori, who is the younger sister of my husband’s tennis teammate from high school (did ya get that?) was surprised by Tim at their very romantic engagement. He sang a song using his guitar from Guitar Hero, had Lori read a letter he hand wrote, and asked her to marry him. AWWW. They truly are a very sweet couple!

Real Las Vegas Wedding: Red and Chocolate Brown

Congratulations to Kate and Ge, a sweet couple from Boston, who were married in October at the beautiful Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa! Their colors were red and chocolate brown which were perfect for this setting. Besides Kate’s love for the color red, she also wanted to honor her groom’s Chinese heritage. Some of his family flew in all the way from China to witness their wedding! Following a beautiful intimate wedding ceremony with music played by an acoustic guitarist, Kate, Ge, and their family and close friends celebrated with a cocktail style reception.
