I had the opportunity to walk the tradeshow floor for Catersource. It was filled with delicious food, beautiful linens, fun food concepts, and so much more! I spent 3 hours soaking in all of the great booths and meeting people that had great knowledge on events, food, and catering.

Round About Cupcake Sleeves were so much fun to look at. They are cupcake sleeves that make the cupcake look like something other than a cupcake! They have a huge collection of sleeves for any event and holiday including a couture line.

La Tavola Linen had an eye catching booth with their vibrant linens. What a great setting these would be for a wedding!

Edibles By Jack had a fun concept on the spoons we normally see at a cocktail hour. These are spoons you can eat! You won’t have to worry about finding a server to take your plate. I personally love this concept because I have a hard time balancing a plate of food, a wine glass, and my purse at a wedding! They come in a variety of flavors from Poppy Seed to Coconut Curry.

Catering Ideas from Catersource

I always look forward to receiving my issue of Catersource magazine and the current issue contains some exciting catering finds and trends for 2010. Since most brides and grooms don’t receive this magazine, I wanted to share a few of the catering trends listed in the magazine:

1. Purple is THE color. Jewel tones are hot!

2. Less is more – the trend is no longer the big and tall centerpieces. Understated and simple elegance is the key.

3. The trend is towards dark fruits such as black current, cherries, and cranberries making their way into banquet menus.

4. “Thursday is the new Sunday,” says Tony Conway of Legendary Events. Hmmm…I AM getting a lot less resistance when I mention a weekday wedding now…

5. I love this quote describing the move away from signature cocktails: “I find that the signature drink, a concoction of neon-colored liqueurs and mystery flavors, is a thing of the past and no one ever drinks them,” says Jim Horan of Blue Plate. “Vodka, scotch, beer and wine are king.”

6. According to the Boston Globe, Korean cuisine is the new hot Asian cuisine

7. Planning Green weddings and events will be as strong as ever as more and more people are becoming eco-conscious

A few years ago, my mother in law gave me rose petals in a syrupy paste form on apples to try and it was delicious. My mother in law is one of those “new age” types who does yoga, zumba and is a licensed Ayurvedic practitioner, aesthetician, and all around hippy. Needless to say…life is fun…and I get to try new things all the time.

Anyway, I was excited to see this new similar item: Wild Hibiscus Flowers in Syrup. The Wild Hibiscus can be used in a variety of cocktails as well as in hors d’oeuvres or even eaten alone!

Vendor Spotlight: Wildflower Linen

When designing your wedding or special event, don’t forget to add linen to your decor budget. There is so much that can be done to a venue with a little bit of linen and lighting to transform an entire space.

I especially love the couture and cutting edge style of Wildflower Linen (seen here at the recent Catersource/Event Solutions Conference held at the Las Vegas Hilton). Wildflower Linen is the brainchild of Youngsong Martin, a former fashion designer. Linens have come a long way and Wildflower is definitely a trendsetter in the business.

Catersource has invaded Las Vegas!

The Catersource/Event Solutions Conference and Tradeshow starts today! This will be my second year attending and I’m looking forward to the continued education and celebration of food, beverage, fun, and special events!

I will be out of the office all week while I attend this conference.

Catersource 2008/Event Solutions Idea Factory

This week I had the pleasure of attending the Catersource Conference and Tradeshow here in Las Vegas. Many people don’t know what Catersource is all about so I’ll explain with their tagline : The Greatest Gathering of Catering and Event Professionals in the World! Anyway, I actually heard about it from a link on The Perfect Wedding Guide where I also advertise and decided to do some research on it. Since I couldn’t attend The Special Event in Atlanta, Georgia, I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss a show in my own hometown!

Although originally geared towards catering professionals, the 5 day show was a wealth of knowledge for event professionals as well. It’s helpful for my line of work to understand the operational side of catering. I felt like I was in college again taking courses on decor and design, marketing, wedding cakes, catering operations, wedding traditions from all around the world, writing proposals, and even green events!

Of course, the exhibit hall was also educational because I got to see all the new products. Many were unrelated (i.e. chafing dishes) since I do not run a catering operation. However, since I am a foodie and come from a food and beverage background, I stopped by all the booths and absorbed everything like a sponge. Of course, there was also plenty of tasty treats to sample along with Highland Harvest Organic Scotch!

The highlight of the conference for wedding professionals especially was Colin Cowie as the keynote speaker during the opening session. I didn’t stay to get his autograph during his book signing but Tracey Kumer-Moore from Your Las Vegas Wedding Concierge did! Check out her blog for photos!

I’ve definitely got my calendar marked for next year’s Catersource 2009!
