LaVey and Tyson’s Wedding

I’m so excited to finally share these images from LaVey and Tyson’s wedding from last September on the blog! This was one of my favorite weddings to plan because we were so involved in all aspects of the planning process and LaVey and Tyson were so much fun. It was a true collaboration. I remember discussing the possibility of finding an old movie theater in California. We also looked into the Queen Mary, the Historic Boulder Theatre, and a few other locations. Read on for LaVey’s take on their wedding planning experience. Thank you so much to the amazing Alt F for providing us with these images. As always, I love working with them. Great photography, easygoing personalities, and true professionals.

Some fun facts: LaVey’s a vegetarian (actually, a pescetarian) but we had a slider truck at their wedding. Luckily, there was one veggie slider option and a mac ‘n cheese station. Can’t let our bride go hungry! She is also allergic to flowers so we kept flowers to a minimum. We had schwartz calla lilies in her bouquet but the rest of the decor provided by Enchanted Florist was non floral decor. And of course, the fab makeup artist and owner of Your Beauty Call not only did her own makeup but did make up for the entire bridal party. She said it calmed her.

I asked LaVey to share their story in her words:
I always thought since I was about 16 that I wanted to get married in a movie theater. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been fascinated by movies and cinema, especially the golden era of cinema where people dressed to the nines to go watch a movie. So, of course I hunted down the only standing old movie theater with any character in it left in Nevada located right outside of Las Vegas in charming Boulder City. I loved that theater and the owner was so nice and accommodating to me.

However, in the mean time, Tyson had started flight school in Henderson at Monarch Sky and the owner and staff had decided to throw a Superbowl party in their brand new recently renovated airplane hangar-turned-lounge re opening. I tagged along with Tyson to the party and from the outside it looked like your average airplane hangar but once you walked through the door, I was amazed by how cool this venue was. The ceilings were beyond high (of course they were, they usually store aerobatic airplanes in there), there was an old fashioned dark cherry wood bar and the whole place screamed retro! And not at all in a cheesy way! It was just a lounge for pilots to hangout in. I knew right then that this place is where we had to get married. My internal thought must have been blurted out loud because the on staff photographer looked at me and said, “you so should get married here. It would be our first wedding.” I glanced at Tyson and we both gleamed and we once again just “knew”. And I guess like they say, “the rest is history”. It’s true what they say, “when you know, you know”. And, that goes for not just the groom but the dress, the venue and really all the vendors you pick for your big day. That’s exactly how I felt with ALL my wedding vendors. It was like we were all meant to be! A true perfect fit! And as cliche as it sounds, you’ll know when it happens to you!

I love the below photo because it showcases her Elvis Presley tattoo. LaVey and I are both Elvis fans – she has a tattoo of him on her arm and I share his birthday. Also, check out the cool airplane bridal bouquet brooch! Love it.

How hot does this group look?

LaVey and Tyson wanted minimal decor at the ceremony site. We set up their chairs “in the round” and decided on black fabric and a red chandelier on the structure and black crystal chandeliers at the start of the aisle.

After the ring bearer and flowergirl walked down the aisle, the music stopped and anticipation was building for LaVey’s entrance. Having a background in entertainment, I am ALL about the drama and the timing of events. I love that the music stopped and it was so silent as we awaited the plane’s entrance to the ceremony site. I got chills when we heard the plane come around.

Tyson’s last name is “Kindred” so isn’t that signature cocktail name perfect?

Kristine and JJ at JW Marriott

Kristine and JJ have so much love and respect for each other that it was such a joy to plan their wedding. After meeting their parents, I realized that the entire family was just as wonderful and all so gracious.

Kristine and JJ were looking for a beautiful outdoor setting for their wedding ceremony. Their style was very elegant and a little on the traditional side. I loved their color palette of teal, gold, and ivory. After many site visits throughout Las Vegas, they selected JW Marriott for their wedding location. Their ceremony took place at the Gazebo and they celebrated with a reception at The Edge Lounge, which used to be a nightclub and has been transformed into a venue for special events.

Lindy and Dang’s Wedding at Mandarin Oriental

I still remember when Lindy first called. She actually spoke to Angelica while I was on a one week cruise. I was 6 months pregnant at the time. Lindy patiently waited for me to return because she wanted to speak to me directly about her wedding.

What Lindy and Dang wanted was a modern wedding but they didn’t want to compromise on the food. Asian food was a must. Lindy is the youngest daughter in her big family and she was going to be the first to step outside of the norm of an Asian wedding banquet in a Chinese restaurant. She still wanted the Asian food but preferred a wedding reception in a more modern and American setting instead of in a Chinese restaurant. The Mandarin Oriental proved to be the perfect fit. They chose a beautiful blue and yellow color scheme. Below are the beautiful photos from their wedding day:

Lindy and Dang decided to do a dove release following their Catholic ceremony at Our Lady of La Vang church.

I love the food presentation at Mandarin Oriental. We were also able to sample the food and everything was delicious.

Candice and Lally’s Engagement Photos

Jamila and Michael: A Yellow And Grey Wedding At Loews Lake Las Vegas

Jamila and Michael were married in October 2011 at the beautiful Loews Hotel in Lake Las Vegas. After spending some time with the bride and groom, I knew this was going to be a fun wedding! Their colors popped against the blue sky and they had a great view of the lake from their ceremony and reception at Lotus Court. Katie and John’s Spring Wedding At Springs Preserve

John and Katie were married in April at Springs Preserve. Their lovely ceremony was held in the Origen with their cake and champagne cocktail hour taking place nearby. Afterwards, guests headed over to Smith and Wollensky where they dined inside the Wine Room. The room was filled with love, laughter, and an abundance of delicious food. Congratulations again John and Katie!

LaVey & Tyson’s Airplane Hangar Wedding

World Market Center Wedding: Grace and Nathan

Grace and Nathan. They are an extremely quirky and intelligent couple who are complete opposites yet perfect for each other. Prior to booking with me, they had sent an entire document with a chart listing out everything I should know about them including facts like Grace being 1st generation Chinese and Nathan being of Japanese descent with roots in Hawaii. I walked away from our consultation feeling like I already knew them very well.

They booked the World Market Center for both their ceremony and reception. Location in downtown Las Vegas, World Market Center is mainly used as a showcase for the furnishings industry. Years ago, I had worked the Las Vegas Market as a convention model so it was exciting to be back there coordinating a wedding.

The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place out on the terrace. But we had to move the wedding inside due to extremely cold weather. In fact, I believe it snowed no more than an hour before I arrived for set up. The reception took place on the top floor at Worldview on Sixteen with a spectacular view of the city. Guests feasted on a tapas menu by Renaissance Catering. Entertainment was provided by Sight and Sound Events and also included karaoke in the adjacent room!

Chinese and Japanese traditions were both incorporated: Chinese firecrackers were used to ward off the evil spirits

A very Asian inspired ceremony site included paper lanterns, paper cranes, and parasols. This was a last minute design by Enchanted Florist since we had to move the ceremony location from the terrace to this first floor indoor location.

Their favors were jars of honey.

They wanted Winnie the Pooh guarding the honey and I just happened to have a big talking Winnie the Pooh so I brought that along for them to borrow.

I loved Grace’s bouquet that included Billy Balls and paper cranes.

Grace’s father gave one of the most heartfelt speeches I’ve ever heard.

A Whimsical Wedding at Loews Lake Las Vegas

Jane and Gene were married on a beautiful April day at Loews Lake Las Vegas. It was an intimate wedding for about 23 guests. Guests entered the ceremony area to a live harpist and a refreshing pre ceremony cocktail. Rabbi Mel Hecht officiated their Jewish ceremony under a beautiful chuppah designed by Flora Couture. The ceremony took place at the breathtaking Andalusian Garden and then moved up to Lotus Court for the reception. Instead of the traditional wedding cake, they opted for whimsical cupcakes with butterflies and edible diamonds from Gimme Some Sugar. After dinner, guests danced the night away with music from singer Brian Starr .

I just loved her beautiful pink bouquet with feathers against her elegant wedding dress.

After the ceremony, Jane switched out her white crystal sash for a black floral beaded lace sash.

They wanted whimsical cupcakes with butterflies and edible diamonds on top. So pretty and delicious!

Maria and Rob’s Wedding at Foundation Room and DragonRidge

On March 19th, 2011 Maria and Rob became Mr. and Mrs. at the lovely Foundation Room inside the Mandalay Bay. The bride looked stunning as her wedding day look was inspired by the famous Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. Their wedding was a unique combination of Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with a Chinese flair. Their cake table was adorned with Bride and Groom skeletons and their Grand Entrance was very grand as they danced into their reception with a parade of Lion Dancers. Congratulations Maria and Rob!
