How did you get started in photography? I started in high school when my Mom bought me a nice camera for a birthday, I didn’t put it down. I was blessed to meet an amazing photographer named David Burke in Pittsburgh, who took me under his wing and taught me everything I know. If I had not met Dave I would still be taking pictures, but without direction.

What did you do prior to this? I got paid the big bucks being a stay at home Mommy.

If you didn’t do photography for a living what would you be doing instead? I would be sliding down slides and running laps at the park with my two beautiful children.

What are some of your hobbies? I love being outside hiking, running, playing sports. I have a great time playing around with my kids, they think of the fun stuff and I get to play along.

What is the craziest wedding experience you’ve ever had? The craziest wedding I have experienced was one last August. In the beginning the group seemed very calm and far from wild, at the end of the night all the men in the room were in the boxers wearing their ties around their heads chanting some college mantra, I didn’t know whether to close my eyes or keep photographing… I kept photographing of course.

What is the best wedding experience you’ve ever had? The best wedding I have experienced was my twin sister Kim’s wedding, I took a few getting ready shots of her, but after that I was in the wedding. It was perfect and meant more then anything for me to be there.

What is your inspiration? Having been able to travel a lot with my family and see the world has really inspired me. Its one thing to see pictures in a magazine and its another to experience it.

Name an exotic location you’d like to visit soon. Greece, my parents just went there for their wedding anniversary, I edited all 2000 photos that my Mom took there, now I want to go there and experience it too.

Why do your clients choose you over some of your competitors? A majority of my clients choose me because we get along so good, they like my style of photography, but a lot of it comes down to our personalities matching more then anything else.

What is the best piece of advice you can offer a bride and groom on their wedding day? Always have enough time during the wedding day to take photos of just the two of you. Its a great time to relax and be alone and you will be pleased in the end with more options and great photos.

Anything else interesting you’d like to share? I’ve been blessed to photograph so many beautiful weddings and people. Thank you Juliet for your hard work and beautiful blog for not just brides and grooms but photographers too.

Valentine’s Day Weddings in Las Vegas

Valentine’s Day is one of the two most popular days to get married in Las Vegas – with New Year’s Eve being the other day.  Whether you choose a little wedding chapel, drive through wedding, or a  5 star/5 diamond resort, Las Vegas has it all!

The Venetian is offering a Suite-Heart Special for Valentine’s Day. Click here for complete package details.

Bellagio is offering a wedding package just for Valentine’s day.

Here’s a list of other romantic Las Vegas locations to tie the knot at on Valentine’s Day:

The Ritz Carlton, Lake Las Vegas – Yes, you can actually get married on a white sand beach in Las Vegas (maybe not on Valentine’s Day but it’s an option during springtime)!

Loews Lake Las Vegas – serene resort with views of the lake

Wynn Las Vegas – get married inside one of their luxurious salons or outside on the lovely Primrose Court

Green Orchid Events is also running a promotion for Valentine’s Day. Please see below for details.

A Few Ways To Get Married On New Year’s Eve In Las Vegas

fireworks las vegas1 A Few Ways To Get Married On New Years Eve In Las Vegas

For those procrastinators out there planning their New Year’s eve wedding, it’s not too late to get married in Las Vegas!  Las Vegas offers many fun, glamorous, exciting, and possibly some last minute options!

Here are some great suggestions:

Say “I do” on top of the Stratosphere in their 103rd floor Chapel in the Clouds. Other options include their outdoor 109th observation deck or a thrilling ride!

Venetian Weddings has many options for intimate wedding ceremonies such as a ceremony on the water in their white wedding gondola, on the Venezia garden, on their wedding terrace, the Bridge over the Square, Venezia Courtyard, or their beautiful Palazzo waterfall!

Eiffel Tower Observation Deck – get married approximately 460 feet above the Las Vegas Strip with 360 degree views of our breathtaking city.

How about a helicopter tour by Maverick Helicopters over the Grand Canyon, Valley of Fire or the famous Las Vegas Strip?

Beyond all of the ideas listed here, Las Vegas offers many restaurants, nightclubs such as MIX and Ghostbar with views, and resorts to suit the various needs of our guests!

Happy New Year and congratulations!

Lucky Number 9 – 09/09/09

Las Vegas would be in a wedding planning craze right now if 09/09/09 landed on a Saturday.

Last year’s 08/08/08 was busy on a Friday but I don’t believe anything topped our lucky 07/07/07 which landed on a Saturday.  My Feng Shui expert actually mentioned last year that 8/8/08 fell on the Chinese Halloween month which is unlucky. However, it didn’t stop many Chinese couples from getting married on that day.

The number 9 is an auspicious date in the Chinese culture because the word is similar to the word for “forever” or “long lasting”.  In fact, when my sister got married, I believe a friend of hers from China gave her $99 as it is the number more widely used in weddings than the number 8.

Check out this Yahoo article on other reasons why “Why 09/09/09 Is So Special“.

How do you feel about these “lucky” numbers and dates?

A Las Vegas Wedding: Sarah and Geoffrey

A big thank you to It’s a Jaime Thing for posting one of our weddings on OneWed!  Check out the post here.

Congratulations to Sarah and Geoffrey who were married at the Wynn Las Vegas wedding salon on April 25th!  A beautiful candlelit ceremony took place at the Wynn Lavender Wedding Salon followed by a delicious and fun wedding reception at Maggiano’s.

Sarah was probably THE most laid back bride ever!  She told me what her accent colors were (yellow, sage, and hints of gold) and gave me creative control!  On their wedding day, Sarah was full of smiles.

I wish Sarah and Geoffrey all the best in their new life together!

Reception: Maggiano’s Little Italy

By Julie King, VP of Sales and Marketing for Wedding Mapper

Want to get the inside scoop from the bride herself? Well, now you can by leveraging a new feature on WeddingMapper.com called Ask-A-Bride. Through Ask-A-Bride, brides from anywhere in the world can connect with newlyweds and ask them questions about their wedding venue, vendors, theme, décor and more.

To use Ask-A-Bride, you simply explore the Real Weddings section in your wedding destination city and select the “Ask a Question” button to contact a particular bride. An email is then sent to the bride who can choose to respond to your question. Thousands of brides are currently using Ask-A-Bride to receive local advice for their weddings. To date, 70 percent of questions receive a response from newlyweds within one week.

For Las Vegas brides, you can view hundreds of real weddings and ask local newlyweds questions about their wedding to make sure you achieve your dream wedding day.

“There is a unique connection between brides married/getting married at the same venue or in the same city,” said Julie King, vice president of sales and marketing for Wedding Mapper. “We hope to foster that connection through Ask-A-Bride and create an honest environment for brides to share ideas and find inspiration.”

In addition to Ask-A-Bride, Wedding Mapper offers other free, do-it-yourself planning tools and services including “Ask-the-Expert,” where brides get personal questions answered by wedding expert and author, Sharon Naylor. Brides can also create custom wedding maps, explore 35,000 Real Weddings, examine vendor reviews, find local wedding events, or post questions on local and global message boards.
